| We have
traveled PA Interstate 80 from Kylertown to Quakertown
for more than 20 years. There was one spot on the
eastbound side that I never remember passing without
remarking how beautiful the view was. Strangely enough,
it was not as picturesque as some other spots in the area
but for some reason, I was always drawn to the view at
the 152-mile marker. On Oct. 29, 1999 our son Grinch (his CB handle) was headed east on Interstate 80 when his tractor-trailer left the road and went over a 700-foot embankment. As the fog lifted, a passerby noticed the guard rail was missing at the 152-mile marker. A few hours later we received the call that our son was gone.
What caused the accident? Was it the fog? Did he fall asleep? Did someone cut him off? WHAT? These questions haunted us day and night. There was no apparent reason for the accident. It seemed so unfair; he was only 33 years old with a wife, a baby on the way, an 8 year old daughter, and a 12 year old son. "WHY WOULD GOD ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN?" was our question. We cried out to God for some explanation of how and why. We begged him to take away the pain and emptiness we felt. No answers
came. |
